Other people’s travels: Wandersis in Nepal – Part VI

Read part one, two, three, four, five.

may 19, 2011 | a leech, a toppled bus, and other points of interest

So today after teaching we drove up the hills to Khakani which is a village on top of the rolling hills of Nepal. It took an hour and a half to get up and it was so narrow and steep and bumpy and terrifying and I thought I was going to die so many times. We even saw a tourist bus toppled over the cliff towards the bottom and Laxman said it went over last year. That was of no comfort. But the views were so unreal. SO unreal. At the top, once I was temporarily assured of my safety, I felt wetness on my ankle. I looked down and there was a friggin leech on my ankle, its tail hovering in the air defying gravity. I screamed so much and freaked out. Laxman was like “it’s just a worm! that sucks your blood!” and I said “IT’S A LEEEECH!!!” It ended up being hilarious but I was very upset haha.

We finished our girls program today with games, a group photo, and we drew pictures of what we wanted to be when we grew up surrounded by empowering words. Afterwards, everyone wanted an individual photo and I was a celebrity. Some girls made us a very touching, warming card that I will show you later.

Also, there is a new Brian in our lives. But he is named Alfred. And he is a lizard that chills on our bedroom ceiling.
